I’m taking a risk.

A risk that’s gonna elevate you up to the standard of market-leaders.

“That sounds cool. If our lives are gonna change for the better, then why call it a risk?”

Because the laptops for Microsoft Office I’m gonna list down are so awesome that if you guys really knew their potential, you’re not gonna need another laptop again. I’ll be left alone then … 🙁

But let’s get to the point.

See, if you’re a Microsoft Office user, you’re already doing a lot every day: maybe you’re using MS Word to type a million words—like me—a week.

Or maybe you’re creating a billion MS PowerPoint slides a month.

Or maybe even more, you’re playing with a trillion tables of data spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel every year.

Using the right tools is a core element of craftsmanship. Microsoft Office Suite is a tool that is operated using a more essential tool: the laptop.

If this essential and basic tool is efficient, it’s gonna have a butterfly effect—a butterfly’s fluttering in China causes a storm in Australia. Or, a good laptop is going to skyrocket your business.

Now, let me reveal my top 8 picks for the best laptops for Microsoft Office!

You son of a bitch, I'm in laptop meme

Self-appreciation post *sighs* 🙁

Buying the Best Laptop for MS Office – The Microanalysis.

This is the calm before the storm. We need to line up our priorities, right?

Can’t go on without this little section!

No, not the buyers’ guide (that’s at the end, and that’s a “macroanalysis”), but a few points that you must keep in mind throughout our interstellar cruise for the best laptop to use Microsoft Office.

Keyboard – as evident as it already is, MS Office is directly operated using the keyboard for at least 95% of the time. You need a tactile chiclet keyboard to keep you away from RSI and related issues that arise from excessive typing.

Operating System – really? Isn’t the MS Office suite meant to be the same for every OS? Sadly enough, no. There are many reasons to choose Windows over Mac, and we’ll explore some of them in the buyers’ guide.

But the bottom line is that you’ll be better off with a Windows laptop.

Display – you think working extensively on a laptop isn’t gonna damage your eyes? Tch, tch. Beware the blue-light and low screen quality laptops.

My listing’s gonna be a doctor for you with safe and high-quality displays!

Portability – an undeniable factor. Although, for most, it might be an office job, still, not everybody can afford to buy a separate laptop for work and regular use?

You need something you can always carry with yourself without hesitation.

Overall – MS Office is a software whose older versions can do the job for you on basic laptops as well. But that’s not what you need.

The real value lies in a machine that’s socially respectable too; brand-wise, capability-wise, style-wise, I mean, in ANY WAY, a laptop can be good.

Now that we’ve got a framework in mind, let’s aboard our rocket and set out on the interstellar cruise where we’ll travel to different planets in our solar system, and see which one we find the most habitable – man, I’m so cool.

First stop: MERCURY!

#1. ASUS VivoBook S15 S533 – Mercury.

ASUS Vivobook S15 S533

Yeah well, it’s Mercury!

The hottest price tag in this list, ASUS VivoBook S15, is the best cheap laptop for Microsoft Word!

The display, a Full-HD 1920 x 1080 screen with Intel UHD Graphics, provides the ideal screen for extensive usage—or dare I say, a habitable atmosphere?

With its durable metal chassis, I’m expecting no smudgy look that we all find untidy in laptops like Lenovo X1 Carbon—although I love that machine a lot. Um, yeah, it might be a little more prone to scratches, but I feel for office use, it’s the best pick; robust and durable.

Now, if we talk about the screen size, then it’s 15.6-inch, which is safely big enough to easily handle. With 86% screen-to-body ratio, the NanoEdge bezels solve the out-fashioned design issues too.

As hot as Mercury itself, with the CPU revolving at a speed of 4.2 GHz (Intel Core i5), ASUS VivoBook S15 is fast when it comes to word processing, spreadsheet manipulation, infographic creation, and much more, making it the best laptop for Word and Excel.

There isn’t much that we can complain about this piece of tech … except that the display isn’t vibrant enough and super-conscious have been complaining about it politely.

Battery time is another factor that can possibly be improved, but given the price tag, it’s not indecent as well.

Other than that, runs Windows 10 smoothly, and the MS Office workflow you’re looking for is a promise this machine has made intact!

#2. Lenovo IdeaPad 330 – Mars.

Lenovo Ideapad 330

We’re here before Elon Musk!

Well, when Captain Hashir is in the cockpit, your cruise is going to be nothing but unexpected!

Elon Musk smoking weed laptop microsoft office meme

*painful Elon noises*

This Martian beauty has a 3.4 GHz processor, an Intel UHD Graphics 620 graphic card, and an 8 GB DDR4 memory. Now the thing that’s clear is that you’re not gonna have any issues running the Microsoft Office suite in here.

Microsoft Office work is physical: typing and typing. It’s a good chance that you’ll wear out the keyboard. Lenovo IdeaPad is great in this sense. The laptop’s strong build supplements the keyboard construction which ensures a durable working journey making it one of the best laptops for Microsoft Office.

On the downside, however, just like the rugged Martian landscape, the Lenovo IdeaPad 330 aesthetics are seriously ancient; an out-fashioned 2008-2013 form-factor. It’s in the laptop league with thicker screen bezels, if you like it, you like it.

Plus, it’s the heaviest laptop on my list … But it’s not a huge snag anyway, a decent backpack can always help put the burden off you!

My take is that Lenovo IdeaPad 330 is more like the best laptop for college students with Microsoft Office who are on a budget, and not “beast” for professionals at all.

The naysayers have said it too: there could’ve been a better performing laptop in this price tag—which is still inexpensive.

Still, the price tag is minimal, the build is robust, the internals are fine, and the brand is Lenovo—there’s only much you can ask for in this money!

We’re heading for Venus, it’s the final countdown!

#3. HP Pavilion 15 – The Venus.

HP Pavilion 15

Mars wasn’t very wholesome … what about Venus?

Can we find our best laptop for Microsoft Office there? Let’s dive in!

The best value, best buy laptop that you can put your hands on in the mid-range category is, hands down, HP Pavilion 15 – my best laptop for Microsoft Office.

Let’s talk about the keyboard, first.

Although not the flagship feature, the keyboard is MADE for extensive use with comfortable under-lighting, key travel, and typing comfort (spacing between the keys).

Most laptops have this issue of not being backlit, which makes it HARD to work at night. Claim HP Pavilion 15 now, and say goodbye to the much-coveted problem.

The operating system, Windows 10 of course, comes with a highly lovable feature: Alexa.

Times your work efficiency by, IDK, like twenty? I mean, all you need to do is ASK, and Alexa is gonna save you tones of time. For instance, ask the answer to a specific question that you are working on, and it’s gonna do it for you.

How awesome is that?

And I know you’re probably thinking, “Oh, two cool features and rest will be garbage”, wrong?

Well, not at all. If it wasn’t the best laptop for Word and Excel I wouldn’t have cared for it.

Talk about the display? It’s got a WLED FHD IPS bright view 15.6-inch display (1920 x 1080) with 81% screen to body ratio: modern, healthy, and oh, vibrant. Not only the best laptop for Microsoft Office, but also for other daily life uses like Netflix, YouTube, and yeah, gaming!

Weighs about 4.02 lbs., not that much portable really … but manageable.

Now to the problems: power consumption, battery life, and fan noise.

Power consumption isn’t really a big factor, so let’s move to the rest two where the real question lies.

You NEED a good battery if you’re to work for hours on end. Sadly, you’ll be having to charge HP Pavilion about every 4-5 hours – twice or thrice in your 12-hour work shift. I think it won’t bother you much though, you’re hardly moving places when you’re on the desk, so that’s okay.

But if you frequently move around – like traveling, moving workspaces, changing body positions and not sticking to table and chair – then you might have to face some issues in portability.

Another take away is the fan noise, like in most HP laptops. But trust me, a few extra bucks for an awesome laptop cooler will do you more good than harm.

#4. Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 – Earth.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 3

Ah, it’s great to be home, isn’t it?

Just like there isn’t a perfect alternative to our gorgeous blue planet, Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 is originally the best choice for laptops with Microsoft Office.

Packing in a cool 8GB memory, 128 GB SSD storage in the basic configuration model, the optimal office performance is a promise. Although 16GB 258GB configuration is also available, the 8 GB variant is much better rated—price and value consideration.

The 13.5-inch FHD screen (also available in QHD with superior variants) displays Intel Iris Plus Graphics (with a 2256 x 1504 resolution); worth the price tag. Is it the best laptop for Microsoft Office? Let’s not come to conclusions just yet!

I wanna talk about the build now, another key differentiating factor here. Microsoft Surface lineup is innately unique when it comes to design and build quality.

It comes in four design variants: matte black, platinum, sandstone, and cobalt blue. Needless to say, each is outstanding in its own way.

Although matte black is the classiest one here, given that you’ll be working for longer hours, it’s safe to say it’s gonna catch fingerprints … so maybe choose one from other variants?

The portability and battery life are two flagship features here, which make it MS Surface Laptop the best alternative for MacBook when it comes to Ultrabooks. It weighs a lowly 2.79 pounds—the lowest in this list!

Say Hi to the most portable laptop, told ya our Earth was perfect!

The battery life is just as smart: 11.5 hours (approx.). So, say buh-bye to charging it even for once during your work shift. Easily plug in the charger at the end of the day when you’re off to bed.

My take on this beauty? Given the immense workload of Microsoft Office users, this is an absolutely magical piece of tech. Same experience as MacBook, but the price? Way down.

Yes, though, even when the price is lower RELATIVELY, it’s not that low at all. Plus, a tech geek would argue that better specs can be acquired in this amount.

But want some expert advice? Don’t listen to them.

This purchase is gonna make your work easier for you, you’re gonna love your job, Billy!

P.S. Consider it the best laptop for college with Microsoft Office requirements with its immaculate portability. You don’t want something you think twice about carrying around, do you?

#5. Dell Inspiron 15 7000 – Neptune.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000

“Across the sea of space, the stars are other laptops.” – Hashir Ibrahim

It’s time for the most exciting interplanetary destination, Neptune AKA Dell Inspiron 15!

One thing is for sure here, Dell can’t really disappoint you—even if they try to.

Dell Inspiron 15 is probably the sleekest, most reliable, durable, and one of the best laptop deals for Microsoft Office. Although not a metallic chassis, the build is robust and prone to possible daily life damages.

This 15-inch giant weighs about a comfortably portable 3.39 lbs. (the list average). It has a 1920 x 1080 pixels FHD display supported by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650—your video gaming cravings can also be fulfilled (not high-end or best value, but decent still).

I’m getting to that!

What actually makes this laptop the perfect choice for you is the brand “Dell” itself. Dell is known for its durability and promise of genuine delivery. Where you might find the on-hands experience of some devices rather disappointing, Dell will surely not add to your problems.

Dell sure can’t disappoint … but they sometimes don’t always surprise you either.

Inspiron 15 has a chiclet-style backlit keyboard which all ‘everyday’ laptops have so nothing impressive there.

The battery life too is a bit old-school. It depends on the model you have (FHD or 4K), but the max it can do is 6 hours (approx.) on the lowest configuration and the minimum is 4 hours (approx.) on the top configuration.

Why I’d still call it the best laptop for Microsoft Office? Again: the brand. Most people don’t understand, but sometimes the authenticity of the producer matters a lot.

You can buy some cheaper alternatives with much better configs, but the durability promise of Dell is and will be, unmatchable!

Next stop: Uranus!

… the planet!

#6. Dell XPS 13 – Uranus.

Dell XPS 13

You guys really can’t stop laughing, can you?

Neptune was cool, Uranus is freezing.

Dell XPS 13, the laptop variant of the planet Uranus, is an extreme example of human advancement.

And BTW, this is the second Dell laptop on the list … told you this brand is unbelievable!

Dell XPS 13 is the best laptop to use Microsoft Office. Period.

The 16GB RAM 512 GB SSD base version is pretty dope in itself. It’s sufficient for you to run MS Office suite with full control and speed, and it’s decent enough for the price tag as well given the other amazing features, let me start with the screen.

Remember I said that a bad screen can affect your eyesight? It’s a major consideration when it comes to working for long shifts on laptops with Microsoft Office. It’s got a beautiful 13.4-inch FHD screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution … noticed something?

Yup. No more 16:9 widescreen, it’s a wider-screen now! And have I told you that it’s super bright (up to 500 nits)? This means that whether it’s working in a sunny room or indoors dark at night, you can comfortably adjust brightness without having it poke your eyes!

Plus, what’s cooler is that Dell has now made it 91.5% screen-to-body ratio. That means an ultra-modern look with more screen space. More screen space means easier multitasking!

Also, Dell XPS 13’s build is SPECIAL. They’ve made it out of a single piece of Aluminum cut into two pieces. And boy, the robustness that they’ve achieved in this way is straight out of the league of all other laptops in this league.

So, yeah, the look that this construction has given them definitely stands out. Your device doesn’t only have to be good for Microsoft office, right? It also needs to be attractive as well so that you gain some peer respect!

I’d say Dell XPS 13 is also one of the best laptop for students. It’s unbelievably portable at JUST 2.80 lbs. just like Surface Laptop 3. Yeah, well, it’s simply 1.5 times the price of a Surface Laptop 3 … but Dell’s promise is far superior to any other brand!

Other than price, you won’t be having any problems here at all!

#7. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon – Saturn.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Saturn has been our ‘lunar’ dream since our childhood, right?

“What? Bro that makes no sense!”

Oh yeah? Well, let me fix it!

Ever happened that you see something and buy it immediately even when you’re seeing it for the first time? And you kinda know you always needed it?

Yeah. That’s the example of Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

The display is an amazing 14-inch anti-glare LED Backlit IPS FHD (1920 x 1080) display with sleek screen bezels (except for the chin, which I think can still be improved).

The anti-glare feature is quite useful for the situation we’re in—looking for the best laptop for Microsoft Office—most backbreaking workers are gonna love the eye comfort here!

The internals are satisfactory, though not the best value for money. An 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and i5 processor come with the base version, upgrade is affordable as well.

Portability is completely opposite to Saturn. While Saturn is massive, X1 Carbon is smart, compact, and handsomely portable at just 4.60 lbs.

It comes in two colors: matte black and light silver. Similar to Surface Laptop 3, the matte black variant’s surface gets VERY smudgy. The light silver one however fixes this problem as well.

But the real fun begins when you come to build quality and ESPECIALLY THE KEYBOARD.

A big OOF here, please.

This keyboard is the market-leader. Yes, it’s better than the scissor-switch keyboard Apple used in MacBook. Yes, it’s the best chiclet keyboard out there.

Ideal key travel. Ideal backlighting. Ideal key-space. Yes. This is the best laptop for Microsoft Office. I’ve said it, I won’t say it again.

It’s a purchase you’re never EVER gonna regret, trust me with that.

#8. Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch – Jupiter.

Apple MacBook Pro 16 Inch

Jupiter is big.

But is it really Apple MacBook Pro BIG? I don’t know, man, I feel weak!

Size, body, keyboard, display—gurls, we’re gonna talk about it all.

Starting with the size, this 16-inch variant is big but portable. Weighs about 4.30 lbs. (lighter than X1 Carbon) which is impressively light for a 16-inch laptop.

I don’t need to introduce the body build-up, do I? It’s sturdy, lush, and durable. The space gray variant has had more popularity due to its ‘new’ kinda feel as compared to other previous MacBook versions.

Apple had switched the keyboard from scissor-switch to butterfly-switch back in 2015. The key travel was lower and the tactility that Apple users loved was gone too.

In 2019, however, after much criticism, Apple switched back to the legend scissor-switch keyboard in MacBook Air, but for MacBook Pro 16-inch, it’s yet to be released in 2020.

The good news is you can enjoy the same feeling, same notes if you buy a MacBook Pro 13 instead as well! Or, if you still prefer the larger screen, the wait is not very long either!

About the display, the 226 ppi rich density 3072 x 1920 retina display is a stunner as always. The narrower bezels provide a sweeter look, which means that the design is more modern now.

What really holds MacBook Pro 16 back from becoming the best laptop for Microsoft Office is its unfair price tag. Though huge, the internals don’t justify the price at all. The overall functionality lacks as well (lesser ports and only restricted to USB-C)—still, this can be solved using dongles.

So, now that our interplanetary cruise has ended, do you feel satisfied? Or do you still need some guidance?

Buyers’ Guide – How to Buy the Best Laptop for Microsoft Office

C’mon, guys, you’ve had ONE job to do!

JonTron Flextape Man box opening laptop meme

Alright, alright, JK.

So welcome to the macroanalysis, guys.

Now, I’m not gonna say “it’s not that simple”, because it really is quite simple.

Let’s take another little cosmic detour on our way back home and let me show you guys a bigger picture of buying the best laptop for Microsoft Word, Excel, or Office as a whole!

Microsoft Office suite is purely dependent on the keyboard. You type down words, numbers, special characters; all by using the keyboard.

You might have an office job where you type 24/7, that you’re really fed up with.

If you do, have you ever given a thought as to why you might be hating it?

Most of the time, it’s not the work that we hate, it’s the toolkit that we use to work. Such is the example of a keyboard.

You don’t realize it, but the keyboard plays a key role in your work efficiency. With the right amount of key travel and mechanical clicking, you can type faster and more accurately. Once such a keyboard is of the MacBook Air 2014.

The scissor-switch keyboard provides a physical comfort that can help you work for hours on end, before realizing how much time you’ve spent. Crazy good, huh?

“But on this list, do we have a similar option? Or a good alternative?”

Meh. What am I for? I’ll take care of everything for you.

Go forward, slap the buy button on any of the laptops in my list and you’re gonna land at an amazing keyboard that promises the factors I’ve counted.

Operating System

Ah shit here we go again MS Office meme

Why are you booing at me, I’m just tryna help :’(

BTW, guys, jokes apart, OS really has to do in the BEST laptop for Microsoft Office than you can think of, and here’s how.

First up, we have the enormous price difference.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as much of an Apple lover as you may be. But the unbelievable prices Apple reveals for encasing the same upper mid-range specs in their MacBook chassis that can be found in most laptops nowadays is pathetic.

In the same one to two grand price range, you can get jaw-droppingly high-end specs. The better the specs, the better suites like MS Office will run.

Secondly, connectivity. The ports.

Microsoft Office is exactly what the name implies: it’s a composition of utility software for office work: you’ve got an executive job; you’re using MS PowerPoint. You’ve got a management job; you’re using MS Word. You’ve got an accounting job; you’re using MS Excel.

A complete office.

And offices need to work quickly and efficiently to reach their goals. Now, with most people having Windows laptop, and transferring files and essential data with the regular USB 3.0s and USB Flash Drives, MacBooks don’t fit in the ecosystem very well.

Apple has its own ecosystem that doesn’t patch up with Google and Microsoft’s ‘wider’ ecosystems. Having only a couple of USB-C ports is one example. You’ll be needing extra cables and converting dongles to forcefully stay in the ecosystem—

“Better to buy a Windows laptop maybe?”

Yes. That’s exactly my point.

Intuitive and self-explanatory; better the screen quality, lesser the damage to eyesight.

No, you don’t need medical proofs here, because it’s as simple as this:

Blue-light is dangerous for our eyes. And for the folks among us who have to work at least 8-12 hours on a laptop or computer, it’s fatal.

AND for the folks already wearing eyeglasses? Poof … I can’t stress enough!

I’m tryna save you from eye-strain, headaches, fatigue, and blurriness – all that I can feel right now :’(

When it comes to buying the best laptop for Microsoft Office, I consider portability a key determinant. This is because it’s highly possible that if you’re using MS Office, you’re moving a lot as well; maybe from your workspace to board meetings where you’ve to show your Excel sheet/Word document/PowerPoint presentation?

In such cases, a heavy laptop or not so portable laptop will set the things wrong for you.

Connectivity is highly important when the laptop you’re buying is to be used for Microsoft Office.

If the laptop that you’re buying has lower connectivity, then you’re stuck, bro.

You’re in your workspace. People are approaching you for different file transfers.

But all you have are a few similar ports. How does that help you? It only makes this worse and more difficult for you. Although, yes, there are many good dongles available in the market as well, will you keep them hanging from your laptop and decrease portability?

No. So, choose wisely.

Design & Appearance

Judgmental people are everywhere, and your laptop choice reflects your personality in your workspace. There are nowadays, disappointingly, many laptops that still have the same old form-factor that was ‘modern’ about 7-8 years ago.

Although you won’t be buying such laptops cheaply either, beware of the laptop architecture with thicker bezels, older and obsolete connectivity ports, poor displays, and non-backlit keyboards.

They immediately make you look ancient and your investment will go down the drain.

Battery Life

Increasing work productivity depends on how consistently you work. If you work more in lesser time, you’re more productive and efficient.

However, such efficient working is undermined by distractions, and the pop-up to plug in the charger is one of them.

The best cure is to buy a laptop with a better battery. Although most companies claim to have longer batteries for their products, their word mustn’t be trusted because it’s not a hands-on experience.

Be sure to look out for a good battery if you need the best laptop for Microsoft Office!

The Complete Package

When you’re making an investment, it’s always important to look at the complete picture.

The purpose here is not just to run Microsoft Office well—any laptop can do that really.

The purpose is to increase work efficiency and be more productive when you’re working using software such as the Microsoft Office suite.

So, don’t just think that all you need is a decent RAM, SSD, and keyboard—NO.

You’ll be needing a lot more than that, all that I’ve shown you above.

Ensure a wonderful investment!

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions on Best Microsoft Office Laptops

What top three things should I look for in my best laptop for Microsoft Office?

The three things that can determine the best Microsoft Laptop for you are the portability, the keyboard, and the build. Portability will ensure nothing stops you or wastes your energy. The keyboard will ensure efficiency for you. And finally, the build will ensure you don’t have to worry about your device’s delicacy and maintenance!

Are expensive laptops better for Microsoft Office?

This depends on the value you’re being given for the price. You can have a million-dollar gold-plated laptop, but still have very basic specs running it. Or you can have a four-hundred bucks starter laptop with cool specs (and surely some other drawbacks). So, no, the price doesn’t determine if a laptop is better for MS Office than the other or not.

For this list, however, this is somewhat true as I’ve selected them very carefully!

Do all the laptops in this list have Microsoft Office pre-installed?

All the laptops which have Windows 10 pre-installed will come with MS Office pre-installed as well. This is another reason why I prefer Windows 10 over MacOS laptops. However, do beware that you may have to buy the license separately as not all laptops offer a free license for Microsoft Word.

Homecoming – My Take on Our Tour

My take on our dreamy interplanetary travel is simple: I know I made sure you guys had fun.

Choosing a laptop for your profession has a very basic rule: know what your job is.

Knowing your job means knowing what tools you can use to enhance it. A laptop computer is a tool that you can use to enhance almost any job in the world that you might be related to.

And then, of course, you can find the best laptops related to that field, like the best laptops for doctors, best laptops for video editors, best laptops for YouTubers—just to name a few.

But remember, always consider the bigger picture and look for value in your purchase. You’re investing in yourself, not wasting money!
