Samsung is expected to announce its major flagship smartphone of the year, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ at an independent event which will take place on 25th February, 2018. With few weeks to the event, this is what you should expect from OEM’s next flagship device.
The Galaxy S9/S9+ is expected to come with Qualcomm’s latest chipset, Snapdragon 845 for US and China markets and their own Exynos 9810 chipset for the rest of the world (Europe and Africa).
Following the success of their predecessors (S8/S8+) the S9/S9+ will come with a curved-edge Super AMOLED “Infinity” display, 5.8-inch for the S9 and 6.2-inch for the S9+. The S9 will be equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage whiles the S9+ will be equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with a Micro SD Card Slot and a 3.5 millimeters (mm) headphone jack for both models.
The main highlight for the next flagship is the camera upgrade with Intelligent Scan, 3D stickers and Tag shot, motion-detect and “super slow-motion” video capture, the S9 will feature a 12 Mega Pixels (MP) rear camera with a variable aperture which ranges from F2.4 to F1.5 shooting at 960 frames per second (fps) for HD videos, 480fps recording at 720p and 60fps for 4K. The S9+ will come in a dual rear camera setup with the other camera module of a fixed aperture of F1.4. Both devices will feature 8 MP front selfie camera. Unlike the S8/S8+ which has its camera setup aligned horizontally, the S9/S9+ camera setup is different, it is aligned vertically which will be very important to many especially if you are coming for the S8/S8+ with the fingerprint scanner below the bottom of the stack.
Samsung has decided to play it cool here, with the Note 7 battery fiasco, the S9/S9+ will come packed with the same battery capacity compared to its predecessor. The S9 and S9+ will have 3000 and 3500 mAh battery capacities respectively.
Another change is the addition of the bottom AKG stereo speakers.
The S9/S9+ will retail for between 950,000 – 999,000 won (approximately $895 – $935) in South Korea and between $775 – $800 in the US.
The S9/S9+ will begin shipping, and selling through retail, on March 16 hopefully.
